Hi! Can you share a bit of insights on the special cyber challenges for aircraft today, and for the aviation industry?
Additional information
I'm particularly interested in this recurring question of vulnerability to hack cockpits from the cabin, especially now with the laptop ban in place in certain markets. It's made some of my readers wonder whether there is more to the threat. Also, in aviation back-office systems, what are the best practices that airlines, airports, and suppliers can follow to protect their systems and IP?

Hi Daniel,
Generally, my day consists of meetings to discuss strategy and budgets. That said, I also spend a lot of my time managing colleagues, in particular with 1-2-1's ensuring colleagues are staying true to agreed department objectives aligned to either my strategy or technical roadmap.
As well as the business as usual aspect of my role (strategy and decision making) I occasionally get involved with fire fighting too. This can range from acting as an stakeholder in incidents to resolving HR issues with colleagues.
In all honesty, no two days are the same and my diary is usually booked 5 weeks in advance.

Hi Leigh,
Thank you very much for your speedy answer. Your response was very useful and gave me a much fuller insight into your role than the website could offer - cheers!

It sounds so interesting. You're so lucky to be the other side of the application process. I hope to be there soon.

Hi Marisa, that's a tricky one :-) Nevertheless you are of course right that Cyber Security becomes more and more important - aviation in general is a part of it. The challenge here is for sure to provide the most security to the aviation systems and in parallel to provide the most exciting user experience to the passengers (i.e. entertainment, etc.). For sure, the critical systems have to be separated securely from all other "additional" systems.
Let me add that the certification processes for aviation devices take a very important role here as well. So this is not only the aviation industry that has to adapt to the new challenges, but the governmental bodies as well. I hope this answers your question Marisa.
